HashPack is now integrated with WalletConnect

Article by

HashPack

After a huge collaborative effort between HashPack, Hgraph, Swirlds Labs, and other Hedera community members, we’re proud to be the first wallet to launch the official implementation of WalletConnect on Hedera.

A special thank you to Tyler (HashPack), Patches and Splash (Hgraph), Brandon (Doerksen & Davenport), and Bugbytes (Calaxy). They have all been instrumental in the development and implementation of Hedera WalletConnect.

What is WalletConnect?

WalletConnect is an industry-standard way of connecting wallets to dApps that is used on other chains. It transforms Hedera into a more connected and user-friendly web3 ecosystem. Developers can now seamlessly link their dApps to Hedera wallets, saving time and fostering innovation.

I’m a developer, what does this mean for me?

Any dApps already using HashConnect will be able to upgrade to HashConnect 3.0, which uses the official WalletConnect standard to allow any wallet to connect with minimal changes, as well as leverage a host of powerful new features we are busy working on.

If you’re a developer and want to integrate a new dApp with HashConnect or update an existing dApp, please view our documentation.

Why not also join our dedicated developer community, the HashGraph Developers Guild? Our objective is to help foster community, provide technical resources, and drive visibility of dApps in the Hedera ecosystem.

At HashPack, we’re dedicated to developing products and services that reduce friction and spark adoption of the Hedera network. Our integration with WalletConnect means HashConnect and HashPack are more accessible for both developers and the community alike.

Wallet Connect Before After

How is HashConnect different from WalletConnect?

HashConnect was created as an interoperability platform standard because, at the time, WalletConnect didn't support Hedera.

We have been heavily involved in ironing out the standards and upgrading HashConnect to work with these new WalletConnect standards.

By using our HashConnect integration, there are a number of benefits:

  1. Reach a larger audience by featuring your project in the HashPack dApp store. HashPack users account for 90% of the Hedera ecosystem.
  2. Hedera social profiles can be leveraged by dApps integrating HashConnect. This feature adds an extra level of personalisation for users, increasing engagement on your platform.
  3. Take advantage of Deep Links to send users directly to your platform inside HashPack.
  4. Access upcoming features exclusive for developers using HashConnect.
  5. Tap into our vast network of developers actively building with HashConnect. Built by the community, for the community.

What took so long?

At the beginning of March, the library was made public by another wallet provider that had elevated access to the repository. This was done without the knowledge of Swirlds and without any cooperation, knowledge, or input from other major ecosystem partners.

The library remained public on the Hedera Github but wasn’t ready for production use. We were heavily involved in discussions with Swirlds, The HBAR Foundation, and other ecosystem participants around how to move the project forward – establishing a governance model and getting the library ready for production use for all wallets and dApps.

Now, with the help of the Hedera community, we’re excited to finally share WalletConnect with you all.
